Show Preview:

  1.  In a bold move that's already making waves across Silicon Valley, President Trump kicked off his second term by unveiling what he's calling Project Stargate, a massive artificial intelligence infrastructure initiative that's bringing together some of tech's biggest players. Fox Business reports that Trump made the announcement from the Roosevelt Room, flanked by tech heavyweights Sam Altman of OpenAI, Larry Ellison of Oracle, and Softbank's Masayoshi Son. This isn't just another tech project - we're talking about a $100 billion initial investment that's set to expand to a whopping $500 billion over the next four years. The first data center is slated for Texas, with plans to expand across multiple states. Trump didn't mince words, calling it "the largest AI infrastructure project, by far, in history."
  2.  President Trump has just dropped another bombshell executive order, this time taking aim at drug cartels by moving to designate them as foreign terrorist organizations. According to AP reports, the order specifically highlights Mexican cartels and other Latin American groups like Venezuela's Tren de Aragua and MS-13 as threats to American security and regional stability.  Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum was quick to respond, emphasizing that any implementation would require close coordination between the two governments. She made it clear that while Mexico supports fighting drug cartels, they'll be defending their sovereignty every step of the way. As she put it, the U.S. can handle things in their territory, while Mexico handles theirs. The order gives Cabinet secretaries 14 days to recommend specific groups for terrorist designation, but experts are already weighing in on the potential impacts. Vanda Felbab-Brown from the Brookings Institution warns this could have massive implications for both trade and migration. Since cartels control much of the migrant smuggling routes, anyone who's paid them to cross could potentially be disqualified from seeking asylum.
  3.  The latest clash between Trump and Democratic states is heating up as twenty-two Democrat-led states and two major cities have launched legal challenges against his executive order on birthright citizenship

n a bold move that's already making waves across Silicon Valley, President Trump kicked off his second term by unveiling what he's calling Project Stargate, a massive artificial intelligence infrastructure initiative that's bringing together some of tech's biggest players.  What's particularly interesting here is the private sector muscle behind this initiative. This follows Softbank's earlier commitment to invest $100 billion in America with the goal of creating 100,000 new jobs. According to White House officials who spoke with Fox Business, Trump has now secured a trillion dollars in private investment for various U.S. projects since winning the election. This marks a significant shift from Trump's first term, where his promised trillion-dollar infrastructure bill never quite materialized. While Biden did manage to push through his own infrastructure package in 2021, this new AI initiative represents a different approach - leveraging private sector investment rather than government spending.

For those keeping score, this is just one piece of Trump's busy first days back in office. While his administration will still have opportunities to influence how the remaining funds from Biden's infrastructure law are spent, it's clear they're charting their own course with this focus on artificial intelligence infrastructure.
