RP Quick Take - Why was China the choice to mediate Iran and Saudi Arabia's diplomatic rapprochement?

Iran and Saudi Arabia have agreed to re-establish diplomatic relations and reopen embassies after Chinese led talks in Beijing between officials from the two rival Mid East powers concluded.

So we ask today, Why China?  And Why is China a good mediator for the longtime bitter Sunni and Shia Rivals?
